a whopping two million!Good god! They're growing like gremlins! Ah, correction: we're growing like gremlins (yes, I have my own account too, as much as I don't want to admit it!). After just a little less than two months since Second Life had pushed up its numbers to the 1st million, Linden Labs has now raised its bar to over two million subscribers! In that time span, that's one heck of a feat!

The pic above shows the current stats (well, at least, "current" at the time the screencap was taken) as shown in the counters at the front page of the Official Linden Blog.

Inspired by this explosive growth, Jeff Linden plans to update their stats counter which they've set at a once-a-day updating refresh. Now, they're going to try and make the counter refresh itself at a more frequent rate: hourly. This'll allow everyone in the community to monitor their growth better.

For those of you who are curious how this number is measured, Linden provides an explanation to answer all of your questions. "The number is measured by querying against our database for the number of accounts in 'normal' status." This however, does NOT include people who:
  1. start the sign-up process but don't complete it
  2. are currently being suspended/held for CSR purposes
  3. cancel or have been cancelled for various reasons
Congratulations, everyone! As for the next million, it could be sooner than anyone expects!

yep.

Inworld, they'll be drinking fake toasts with fake champagne, which is the perfect way to celebrate fake numbers.
