Second Life available for Linux users |
So, you are a Second Life fan, but you also prefer Linux? Well, don't let that get you down, good news for Linux using Second Life fans like you has just been announced. Linden Lab, creator of Second Life has launched a public test of its Linux client that includes all the same features and interface as the Windows and Mac OS X versions. For those of you who are not aware, Second Life requires no membership or download fees, so it is absolutely free. Still not interested? Well take this into account. While this is technically an MMORPG game, there is absolutely no built in activities for players to do in this game. No quests, no factions, just a virtual life where you make what you want of it.

All content in Second Life is created in-game by the users. Players are able to script any type of 3D object that they want and assign it's behavior. You can buy things in-game using the Linden Dollars currency (estimated at a 200:1 ration to USD) to purchase some things in the game, and many players spend a considerable amount of time and effort to make clothing and objects to sell to others. You can purchase land in Second Life, but you have to pay for a Premium Membership in order to have this option, and you will be charged a "Property Tax" payable to Linden Labs. But, even if you don't pay, you will receive a small "allowance" of Linden Dollars to get by on!
