Richard Garriot to develop Ultimate RPG |

So we all know who Richard Garriot is? No? He recently won a lawsuit case for a game that he made that was shut down. Then he was paid damages for the game. He has also been in the games scene for over two decades crafting some of the best (and meh) RPG and MMORPG experiences. Now he is crafting, what he calls, the ultimate RPG expeerience...or apparently Akalbeth or New Britannia or some other title he hasn't thought of yet, Garriot objectively posts on his Facebook page.
He was speaking with Facebook about creating the new game and had quite an ambitious approach with it. It could require a lot of people to work on it and keep it updated, which is what I think when I think of Ultimate RPG. Something which, like an MMORPG is consistently updated to keep up with trends and user feedback. Anyway, the Facebook post is long, so I'll just keep to the facts.
You will have an in-game Avatar who willl have a homestead and real roles to play in a highly interactive world. You'll have virtues and the hero's journey which will reflect the player you've created. It will use synchronous and asynchronous features, which I'm assuming will mean it will post stuff on your friend's Facebook walls. Now it all sounds a bit like a social networked version of Fabel, but I do go on...
Lord British (Garriot) says it took him almost a quarter of a decade to create the first Ultima but this new world will be "smaller, thinner and lighter" and will have fewer features than your average MMO. Garriot also says he will not tolerate bad instructions, interface and huge upfront fees which gives me the biggest thumbs up I've ever seen in my life.
Between making social games with Facebook, suing companies and selling his house, Garriot's made pursuit and conviction to gaming is the equivalent to Nic Cage's own Hollywood insanity. Just glad there is now Video Game Celebrity Gossip news, nor would there ever be such a niche possibility due to hte fact that most gamers and developers do not look like Mr. Garriot or Cliffy B or that chick who runs the Assassins Creed series.
