PoV: MMO is the future of American gaming? |
Listed in: News Tags: opinion
As Li Xue Sheng sees it, MMOs will take over console gaming sometime in America's future. The VP for SEE Interntaional Entertainment made the bold claim in a recent interview.
According to him, while console gaming is still the sure way to catch the fancy of American gamers, MMO are hot in its heels and are sure to to be clear in their future.
"MMOs will take that place in future for sure. And in American market, web games has increased 3 times faster than MMO RPGs, which has been defined as the future of American gaming."

It's not clear from his statements how he foresaw this event happening, although it is clear that the American market does make sufficient room for MMOs. Still, though, I'll have to say with all the technology revolutionizing the basic console experience (ie. Move, Kinect), the MMOs edging out consoles in the scene will not be for many more years to come.
It's not really an issue of infrastructure or technology, because the American market is more than sufficiently ready for that. The only question then would really be on where the gaming public interest lies.
How about you? Do you feel a strong potential for MMORPGs to really take control of the American gaming scene, or is this all baseless conjectures at this point? It would be an interesting development to see, considering how some people are claiming that the death of the PC is soon to come.
