MMO companies form anti-piracy group |
Ó
It looks like pirates have another enemy in their midst, as we recently learned that a new anti-piracy group comprised of online game companies and developers was recently formed. Chinese games developer CDC Games announced that it has teamed up with the following companies in order to combat the piracy of online games in China: CCP Games (EVE Online), Ons On Soft (Shine), Sonokong (Shaiya), Wemade (Mir II), and T3 Entertainment, developers of Audition. The alliance, known as the Online Game Alliance Against Piracy (OGAAP) are committed to not only performing market research, but also in advocating anti-piracy legislation and proposing new policies in the industry. OGAAP will also be promoting a public awareness campaign against piracy and for proper copyrighted game usage, educating online gamers about copyrighted content and fighting against pirates and pirated game operators.
Said Peter Yip, CEO of CDC Games, about the alliance:
Like other segments in the entertainment industry, we have experienced an increase in piracy, especially with some of our more popular online games. Our primary objective is to reduce, and if possible, eliminate these piracy challenges so our industry can continue its vibrant growth throughout China. This alliance and the recent successful convictions of illegal operators are major steps in achieving our objectives.
