Riot Games, the development studio behind the massively multiplayer online game League of Legends, has announced that League of Legends players have banded together to raise over US$ 160,000 for victims of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan last month.
The money comes from sales of the Champion Akali and the Nurse Akali skin during the period of March 21 to 27. 100% of the proceeds from the sales went directly to the American Red Cross. Over 50,000 League of Legends players helped raise the amount for the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund.

"We are nothing short of astonished by the incredible generosity of the League of Legends community," said Marc Merrill, President of Riot Games. "The earthquake and tsunami in Japan was a tragedy of overwhelming proportion, and we can’t thank our players enough for stepping up and contributing to the relief efforts."
League of Legends is Riot Games' debut title and focuses on session-based, multiplayer battles between rival player teams. Built by a veteran development team, including original creators of the popular, player-made mod Defense of the Ancients, League of Legends combines elements of both strategy and competitive action genres.
