Ladies Night in MMO Prime World? |

So it looks like the newly developed MMO, Prime World will be launching quite soon and developer Nival has begun to sort out it's priorities. One of them being to use gender for the game world balance and pricing as an effort to attract sisters, wives and just women in general, to the hardcore market. Players who set up an account with Prime World, will first be asked what gender they are. But they will actually be looking at your Facebook profile to confirm whether you're a man or a lady.
Of course, you could easily get around this by creating a faux FB page, if you're a dude and you really wanted to play as a chick, but to be honest, that's your choice. Prime World will affect your character, his or her ability and the price of in-game purchases, depending on your gender. Larisa Nuretdinova, creative director for Nival and Prime World, said that, "the idea is to introduce the MOBA genre not only to hardcore players who already love it, but to their friends who might be more casual, and of course to their sisters and girlfriends who may not be as hardcore." So you are starting an early beta for a race of superfemales who love MMO's, good for you Nival.
"To do the very best, you'll want a female player on your team," Nuretdinova says. "You don't need to have male and female players on the same team to win, but it will certainly help. The game will be connected to your Facebook account, so it will actually be able to check that your real-life gender, and the bonus is only available when a team is made of mixture of male and female players who are playing as characters of the required gender."
The developers hope that by adding these women-centric mechanics, it can attract a larger pool of females into the game, thereby creating what it defines as a true social atmosphere.
I think it's a great marketing move, as well as an interesting model for setting up a world with men vs. women and making the latter slightly advantaged. Feminist statement or really good business model? Tell us in the comment below.
