IBM's 3D web worlds plans begin in Second Life |
Ó
IBM began establishing itself inside Linden Lab's Second Life back in late 2006. It seems that it has been enjoying its stay in the virtual world as it recently announced a future project that will allow residents to walk into three-dimensional Web worlds to browse virtual libraries.According to IBM.com Director of Global Web Strategy and Innovation Maggie Blayney, they are doing this because they feel like a major transformation in web interaction is coming soon. Blayney added:
The real reason why we're doing this is because we do feel the beginning of a major transformation on how people are going to interact on the Web - going from a flat to an immersive experience. It's not going to replace the two-dimensional Web but it's going to integrate and complement it.
The director added that starting Thursday, IBM's virtual business center in Second Life will be populated with real sales representatives from regional offices in Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia. Since its opening last year, the said virtual center has welcomed around 10,000 Second Life residents.

So shorty IBM will be showing how commercialism works in a 3D game how it can be integrated from the web into some sort of a walk threw experience via their island(s) in second life. Tell me how that is any different that what any other company has tried and failed to do? Will Linden Lab suddenly announce that Second Life and land ownership in Second Life is free to all? I think the major problem corporations have is that they do not understand that most ppl view Second Life as a place to escape the dull realities of their real lives. Brining corporate America into that world is a bad business decision. Leave ppl the hell alone, let them have their fun. When was the last time anyone switched the channels looking for a commercial? Never thats when we get up off the couch and go to the bathroom. Expect ppl to log out rather than view in world commercials. Duh.
