Final Fantasy XIV Online gets back on |

As promised, Final Fantasy XIV Online is now back, well, online. Back in March 13th, Square Enix decided to shut down their serveres for the game, along with Final Fantasy XI, and PlayOnline in consideration of the energy crisis that loomed after the massive Tohoku earthquake.

Earlier last week, they set the date for the games going back online on March 25th. They explained back then, "Operating the servers for these services makes up 11.6% of the total power consumed by our Tokyo office (based on February 2011 records). We have shut down our air conditioning system (8.8%) and enacted other power conservation measures, such as reducing lighting in our offices, to achieve over 10% in energy usage reductions."
Last weekend, the date came and went, and finally, Square Enix fans who missed their games were then able to be reunited with them. Two weeks of taking the servers down for the sake of Japan is a small thing to do for them in light of what happened.
We're glad that Square Enix has restored their services fully come 4:00PM last weekend. Although they did warn that they might have to suspend it again, if in case the situation turns for the worst.
Hopefully they won't have to do that anymore, not for the gamers, but for the people of Japan.
