Gazillion has revealed a lot of new details regarding their upcoming massively multiplayer online game, Marvel Universe, during a recent event in San Francisco.
First off, the game's development is being handled by Secret Identity, a sub-group that Gazillion created solely for the purpose of working on the game. The game will be released under a free-to-play model and is being targetted primarily towards adults.
Players will be able to play as any of the playable Marvel characters and will not be restricted to only one character. Interestingly enough, Secret Identity and Gazillion will allow multiple players to play as the same character. As the devs put it, this can lead to "lots of problems and lots of opportunities."
Confirmed playable characters include Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Thor, Spiderman, Nova, and Squirrel Girl. At launch, Doctor Doom will be the game's primary villain.
Marvel Universe will feature existing stories told through the comic books and will be all kinds of canon. No alternate universes here. Brian Michael Bendis will be writing the game's storyline. Bendis says that "no corner of the Marvel Universe will be left unturned." This will likely be true for the game's overall lifetime and not the version that will be available at launch.
Marvel Universe is currently being readied for a PC release but Gazillion seems interested in releasing the MMO on consoles as well. According to one of the devs, other platform releases are "TBA".

I tried DC Universe and that sucks. I won't pay ~15e/month for that kind of crap. For free? Maybe.
