World of Warcraft

Since World of Warcraft has graced the walls of the MMORPG Kingdom, it is safe to say that no other title comes close in terms of subscriber dominance. Just last March, the guys at Blizzard said that they've surpassed the 6 million mark. Six months later, in the Austin Game Conference, Blizzard has another announcement to make to the faithfuls.

This Wednesday morning, WoW reaches the unprecedented number of 7,000,000 active subscribers worldwide. Such number, despite expected is still overwhelming. Technical problems and player complaints never beleaguered Blizzard as these were just minor bumps along the way.

The Burning Crusade is coming and it will just make Azeroth a lot more crowded and a lot more intense. Outside the World of Warcraft, we wonder if the other MMOs are prepared to make war.

2 million user base.

Vanguard and Age of Conan could damage wows true 2 million user base (I don't cound the 5 million chinese farmers as subscribers.) Both Vanguard and AoC offer more to do than WoW. We'll see how it turns out when they are both released.

Need more info on the pop increase.

They need to provide more details on the population increase. Just to say they reach 7 million isn't enough. Are they getting more subs from existing markets? or from emerging or newer markets, such as China? Apparently China carries 5 million of WoW sub list (of which they don't have the same sub plan as North Americans or Europeans). Chinese pay about $.04 USD per hour. So...sure, Blizz may be getting more Asian players, but how is their North American and European markets doing? This would be a better measure regarding their customer end game content, game longevity, customer service, and the value of their content releases.
