Royal Red Squadron

You gotta admit it, it takes enormous tactical skills and patience to navigate in the Caribbean islands of the 18th Century as a bold sea captain to seek glory and adventure across the trackless deep. Aside from being a patient and master tactician, you should also mesh well with your crew, great personal abilities are nothing if your crew is just oh so dysfunctional.

Which brings us at this junction. The people behind the MMORPG, Pirates of the Burning Sea, has interviewed one of the game's factions - a British guild named The Royal Red Squadron Guild. The two high-ranking members of the guild, Michael Adavar who is the Diplomat of the Royal Red Squadron and Admiral Badger who is the commanding officer of the Royal Red, gamely answered questions about their strategies, guild experiences, and recruitment issues.

When asked what made them decide to field a guild for the PotBS, Admiral Badger mentioned that he has ample experience in leading a guild and that he has always been fascinated about the Age of Sail. When he stumbled upon PotBS via Google, he wasted no time posting "information on the PotBS forums. After several weeks of learning about the game I set off to build a community for like minded individuals who wished to fight on the side of the British Empire thus was formed the Royal Red." He believes that he is in good company as all the 50+ members of the guild are all talented. He also believes that "I have surrounded myself with an Admiralty board of some of the most competent leaders possible."

When asked why they decided to field a British Guild, Adavar said that the reason behind this is the fact that the "British Navy is the natural choice for many with its tradition of being a Naval powerhouse. Numerous movies and books portray the glorious British Naval Captain victorious over his enemies." This reason helped with recruitment since UK gamers and those with English roots decided to join in their crusade.

Even at the risk of exposing their guild's weaknesses (everybody has one), they mentioned that the play style that they encourage to be used by the guild is based on the fact that "given the wonderful economic system FLS is developing and it's related port contention rules, it has become apparent that a successful guild will be required to embrace both merchant and naval skill sets. We are organized around this logic and encourage all styles of play (except piracy). PvP, PvE, Naval and Merchant play are all key to our survival and eventual success."

They say that the factors that make their guild a standout amongst the collective are their "level of esprit de corps that is present and the friendships we have developed". In the end, camaraderie amongst members is really what stands out, and not just personal talents.
