An interview with the man behind the Hellgate |
Ó

Hellgate: London is a game that combines the depth usually associated with role-playing games and the intensity of first-person action games. With its randomly-generated levels, items, and events, it is one game that truly offers infinite replay value. Factor in the sheer enjoyment that one can get by blasting and slashing though endless hordes of demons and you've got the recipe that has made Hellgate: London one of the most anticipated games today.
The man behind Hellgate: London, Flagship Studios' founder and CEO Bill Roper, recently talked to GameDaily about the past, the present, and the future of Flagship Studios' first original IP. One of the things brought up in the interview was the fact that Japanese company Namco Bandai is backing Hellgate: London. A lot of Japanese publishers are starting to look for games with more Western content, and here's Roper's take on the subject:
We think it is great that Namco Bandai was willing to work with a Western developer on a game with a decidedly American / European style and setting. The key to our discussions was the game itself, and with their history of creating quality products, this was something they grasped upon as being more important than the Western nature of the game. Publishers and developers both want to have great games reach the players, regardless of where they are located in the world.
The interview also touches on what's in store for Hellgate: London, which Roper has alluded to as a franchise in the making. According to Roper, they "have ancillary products already coming out and planned for release over the next 1-2 years." It seems the foundations for Hellgate: London's marketing blitz has already been laid down, and for a title with as much buzz as this one has, gamers are no doubt looking forward to seeing exactly what Flagship Studios has planned.
Hellgate: London's US release date has yet to be announced, so keep checking QJ for more updates.
