An Interview With Dungeons and Dragons Executive Producer James Jones |
Ó
Fans of Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO) will be thrilled with what Executive Producer James Jones revealed about the game and the soon to be released Twilight Forge module. Gamers can expect level cap increase 50 to 60 this fall. Consequently, this will unlock the level 6 arcane and divine spells from the DDO rules. Enhancements for all classes and races are also in the works to go with the rank increase. Naturally, equipment to support the higher ranks will be added as well. The much anticipated Twilight Forge module offers an entirely new system to support solo play. It also marks the debut of the a playable race, the Drow. Jones and his team have been listening to the DDO fans who want to play games on their own, or at least have the opportunity to do quests while they wait for their friends or guild mates to login. And that's how the module came to be.
In the Twilight Forge, players will travel to a new part of the continent of Xendrik known as the Restless Isles and encounter new monsters and a new undiscovered legendary creature. Gamers can expect to see new areas of the world on a more regular basis through modules.
Players who are more competitive than others would be thrilled with new live events including tournaments sponsored by Houses of Stormreach. This will coincide with the addition of PvP mode later this year.
With a lot of new features in the module, Jones admits that they weren't able to explore much about the political back story of the houses in Eberron. Using Twilight Forge as the start off point, a feature is added that allows players to gain "favor" with the various houses. Jones adds, We plan to continue to build upon this system to further increase the lore, history and competitiveness of the houses. Through this new favor system it is rumored players may be able to unlock additional inventory space and possibly even more bank storage.
When asked about DDO's plan in the future, Jones had this to say:
We have big plans for D&D Online in the future, not just 6 months from now but over the longer term. Some of the obvious things like prestige classes, epic levels, crafting, and PvP are already planned items for us. But we are looking beyond these things as well – in game mail, transportation systems, tavern games, auction systems, expanded guild systems, housing, politics, factions, NPC Party Members are all on our potential feature list. If it’s in D&D it’s possible it will be in D&D Online, we are really focusing on bring everything fun about D&D to the online version.
It's always a treat to get information straight from the horse's mouth.
