For options such as Wi-FI, volume, brightness, ringtones, email etc you must make a visit to the settings application. Search for the icon on your home screen which looks like a box of gears. On tapping it you will introduced to a world full of options to customize and personalize your iPhone the way you want to. Remember, you should set up a passcode lock for your iPhone so that your personal data remains safe and is inaccessible by other people.

If you wish to do so, then go into Settings>General and then tap on Passcode Lock. Here, you can set up a numeric passcode lock or a text one and also determine the time duration after which your iPhone locks itself up. Make sure you don’t forget your passcode! Say you don’t like the placement of apps on the home screen and want to shift it around to suit your needs, then simply hold onto any of the icons and wait for it start jiggling. Once it does, you can shift around and rearrange icons based on your liking. After you are happy with your arrangement simply press the home button and the jiggling will stop. You can also hold and drag an icon into another to create a folder.

You may want to invest in a Bluetooth keyboard if you type a lot. Another useful tip is to get a business card holder to keep the iPhone in a nice slanted position, allowing you to see the screen clearly and typing with both hands. This can also be useful to watch movies without needing to hold the iPhone in your hand.

When you are on the go, you can use the Verizons 3G network to use internet on your iPhone. However, a better and faster option is obviously to connect to a Wi-Fi connection which also saves battery. Wi-Fi can be set up by going into Settings>Wi-Fi and selecting the available networks around you. The on-screen keyboard pops up if you need to enter a password. Luckily, the iPhone stores the network credentials and you don’t have to enter it each time you connect. You can also easily sync your email and calendars. Several email clients such as Gmail, Yahoo etc are supported and you can easily switch on sync from the Settings application. It is also possible to set up Exchange Active Sync from your corporate/work account. However, you must be aware of security passwords so it is advisable to check with your IT people.

So now you have you internet setup, emails synced and iPhone personalized. What else could there be left to do? Well frankly speaking, a lot! Stay tuned for the next part.
