The iPhone 5 Processor is Better Than We Thought |

If you were lucky enough to snag an iPhone 5, odds are you definitely weren't purposefully waiting in line or constantly refreshing your computer screen to buy something slow. With the device's new custom-designed A6 dual core processor, Apple promised us we would be dealing with some of the most advanced specs in the smartphone world. Originally, benchmark tests put the fresh chip at a cool 1.02GHz, which was still enough to oust plenty of the competition, but what if we told you that the truth is that same processor actually runs a good deal faster?

Now I know what all of you are thinking, I'm not just talking about some snazzy hack to overclock your iPhone. The error in fact, comes from the program that was used to perform those early release performance tests. Under the guidance of a tried and true app known as Geekbench, we thought we had reached the correct spec when the original attempt gave us a 1.02 return.
However, as all apps must do, even Geekbench needs an update. Following the release of a newly optimized version designed specifically for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5, the program's updated detection algorithm gave buyers of this new phone a much more satisfying result. We can finally confirm here that Apple's A6 chip truly runs at a speed of 1.29 GHz. For those of you keeping score, that's twice as fast as the iPhone 4S, and it even fares better than the much beloved Galaxy S III. So what does that mean for you? Well if you have an iPhone 5, you truly did just pick up one of the fastest phones on the planet. Even though the jump is somewhat small in the grand scheme, the added horsepower that has just been discovered may just be the key to running your favorite apps.
The rumors are true: an iPhone really never was faster than this.
