Rockstar Games have had their games on mobile platforms before. Chinatown Wars for DS was put on iPhone and GTA3 and is getting a good release on both the iPad and iPhone before the year is through, but co-founder and Rockstar VP, Dan Houser, has said the "general mobile industry are morre focused on making money than making good products"

Houser spoke to Famitsu magazine and was quite frank about their upcoming releases and the recent developments in the games industry, which have more or less had nothing to do with Rockstar post-2007, but Houser was more or less confident about the game business, being a business AND a creative medium

"We're a business too - we have to think about how to build revenue and we value the knowledge you need for that, but we want to conduct business with superior product. Focusing on nothing but business is depressing to me; it's boring. I want people to understand that we make games for more than just to make money."

Houser said in a final comment that he doesn't think that mobile games will swallow up video games, which I could not agree more. While there is not enough money in AAA titles, there is still a bigger and stronger fan base when it comes to those titles as opposed to the casual like.

I appreciate that there are developers who will come out and say "mobile games are made purely for the $$$ and I think that sucks." It's nice to know that some people actually call out others on their BS and work against it rather than simply groaning about them and then opening a new tab in their browser...

"general mobile industry are morre focused on making money than making good products"

That has to be, hands down, the most pointless statement I've read yet. Here, let me try...

"the general person on planet earth is a douchebag"

That doesn't prove anything. It's pretty much a baseless and unfounded comment that is so utterly nonspecific that it doesn't mean anything at all.

There are tons of awesome mobile games that have entertained me more then a console game and more then typical DS game and they have all cost under $10. The mere FACT you can point to many dozens of games that are NOT based on profit only proves this guy is nothing more than a shmuck.

He's so right. So many mobile games are about getting the game out to every platform as quickly as possible, and using things like ads to make as much money off the player as possible.
It makes me sick.
R* haven't done this. LCS and VCS for PSP were top-notch, as was Chinatown Wars.

Funny that the head of Rockstar, who have made some of the highest grossing games in history, isn't concerned with just making money. Obviously they're doing something right.
