Peter Molyneux is Being Peter Molyneux Again |

It’s time again for Peter Molyneux to start making enormous promises he can’t keep. This time around, though, he’s not swearing on the new mechanics of the next Fable or generally swinging his “innovator” title around—he has a new game to talk about and man is he ever stoked.

But first, as is the customary Molyneux style, he has to take a dump on the last game he made. Molyneux felt that Fable III was rushed, and not pushing the higher-ups for more development time is listed as a “personal failure” by the developer. Essentially, he failed to perform the primary task of a game director—explaining to the publisher why a development team needs more time, and making it clear.
Now that the taking responsibility for a bad game is out of the way, Molyneux can move onto his next step: Explaining how his new game will be the absolute best thing anyone has ever seen or played. And, of course, how it’s going to change the world:
“When you've got all this technology and all these ways of touching and using these devices, and bringing that together in one experience - that's really the reason we set up 22Cans. And then we change the world and everyone will be happy.”
On the plus side, Mr. Molyneux does believe his new studio will have something to show the gaming community this year, and they may be taking the Minecraft route for testing and delivery:
“One of the things we are definitely going to do is involve a community in this experience before it's completed. I love the idea of what Minecraft and Markus did. I love listening to people's positive and negative points. This world today is very different to the world where we used to stick something in a box and put it on a shelf and the world didn't need to see it, touch it or experience it until it was absolutely finished.”
We’ll just have to wait and see what Molyneux has up his sleeve. Perhaps, free of the constraints of Microsoft oversight, he may indeed be onto something magical.
What do you think?
Oh, and if you’re into Molyneux, you should read the full interview over at Eurogamer.
