With its sleek design and tempting array of apps, it’s no wonder that the iPhone is a chick magnet. Maybe that’s why Apple’s smartphone is most wanted by female buyers. A recent study reveals that 31% of the women surveyed want their next smartphone to be an Apple iOS device, while 22.8% opt for a Google Android. In contrast, 32.6% of the men want an Android device, 28% an iOS phone. Could this be because guys are more likely to be into tech-y gadgets while women prefer ease of use? Obviously, men like the iPhone, too, which is why it ranks ahead of Android in total preference by 35% to 28%. Least-wanted smartphones were those by BlackBerry with 13% and Windows at 6%. These figures don’t paint a sunny future for RIM or Microsoft. BlackBerrys and iPhones currently are tied in market share, with 27% each, followed by Android phones with 22% and Microsoft Windows devices with 14%. The new Windows smartphones are getting a tepid reception from buyers, despite the hype and ad blitz from Microsoft, while Android phones are causing more excitement and anticipation. Will Android phones overtake iPhones in the next year? Only time will tell.
