No more E3 to steal the thunder from the iPhone this week, and now Apple's smartphone is poised to make its own headlines, especially after starring in the event where it shines brighter than the gaming scene - the World Wide Developers Conference. Under the spotlight this week is the newly-unveiled iPhone 3G, and you can learn all about it in this edition of the iPhone Weekend Warrior. And yes, there are games in the recap too.

Games for iPhone, iPod Touch

Let's start off with the week's batch of games. Pretty good batch I'd say, with major gaming franchises Doom and Dead or Alive chipping a game each into the App Store. There are also two tower defense games in the mix, and TD just doesn't get old. Anyway, on to the list.

The iPhone 3G S

The recently-concluded WWDC saw a new iPhone, the iPhone 3G S. It may look exactly like the iPhone 3G, but it's much faster with a 7.2Mbps HSDPA. That's not the only power-up that the iPhone 3G S is packing though, there's more. For that, there's a fat blue link at the end of this blurb. Link

The story doesn't end there. One of the new features that the new iPhone sports is its support for OpenGL 2.0 which gives the smartphone the graphical potential to compete with a gaming handheld. In fact, Fishlabs CEO Michael Schade believes that this is 3G S's trump card to push beyond the PSP. Woah. Link

Firmware 3.0

Oh cool, new iPhone coming, new firmware released. Firmware 3.0 was released earlier this week for the iPhone, but before you jump the gun, read this little advisory and save yourself a slap on the forehead. There's no jailbreak for Firmware 3.0 just yet, so you might want to put that upgrade off until there is. Link
