iOS 5 beta released

And apparently, it was jailbroken already!

A few hours after Apple released the beta version of its latest mobile operating system, iOS 5 has already been jailbroken. MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team has posted some proof of the jailbreak on his twitter account, with an an iPod Touch 4G sporting the Cydia and iSSH icons.

Apple unveiled iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch yesterday at the WWDC conference in San Francisco. It includes over 200 new features when it launches this fall. Among the new features revealed is the revamped notifications system called ‘Notification Center’, iMessage, Newsstand, Twitter integration, enhanced Safari, a new Reminders app, new features in the Camera and Photos apps, a new PC Free feature, built-in dictionary, tabbed browsing for iPad, Game Center updates, Mail enhancements and AirPlay Mirroring, among others.

The jailbreak uses the same Limera1n exploit along with tethered boot. Because limera1n is a bootrom exploit, Apple cannot patch it through software updates alone. The only way to stop it by making a significant hardware revision.
