Apple has released a new update to its iOS mobile operating system, addressing the PDF exploit that could potentially allow malicious hacker's to gain access to thew user's personal info.

The update is available for the GSM iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, and third- and fourth-generation iPod touch. Another firmware, iOS 4.2.9, is also available for all CDMA iPhone 4 for Verizon users.

Here’s what Apple has to say about the update:

Available for: iOS 3.0 through 4.3.3 for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (GSM model), iOS 3.1 through 4.3.3 for iPod touch (3rd generation) and later, iOS 3.2 through 4.3.3 for iPad

Impact: Viewing a maliciously crafted PDF file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution

Description: A buffer overflow exists in FreeType's handling of TrueType fonts. Viewing a maliciously crafted PDF file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution.

The PDF exploit was also used by the recent JailbreakMe 3.0 hack that allowed users to jailbreak their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running up to iOS 4.3.3. So if you are running on a jailbroken, stay away from the update.
