Gabe Newell says Apple has a future in consoles

Who here remembers what the Pippin was?

A brief lesson in video game history: The Pippin was a console that Apple failed to launch back in 1995. It was a co-finance with Bandai (pre-Namco iteration) and sadly with only a few supporters and even less buyers the console faded into oblivion and before they knew it the world had forgotten about that ever happening when they announced that iTunes would have games on them...let's say the console was expensive as all hell and let's just leave it at that.

Fast Forward to now and the tragic loss of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and a stable video game market breeds good news and some possible forseeable truth with Valve head, Gabe Newell being quoted this week saying at the Seattle WTIA TechNW Conference: "I suspect Apple will launch a living room product that redefines people's expectations really strongly and the notion of a separate console platform will disappear". Newell having warmed up to console's in the past year by actually supporting them with workable games.

That being said he did comment on the current state of affairs and where they were heading. Newells said about consoles, "They build a shiny sparkling thing that attracts users and then they control people's access to those things," but he kept it light with the future, sayig "very large structural investments and structural changes" are to happen in the next few years. Change is always a good thing regarding gaming, because the market is large enough to either stick with trends or offer something new in the way of independent gaming.

Newell continued on the state of Apple's hat in the gaming platform race. "I consider Apple to be very closed. Let's say you have a book business and you are charging 5 to 7 percent gross margins. You can't exist in an Apple world because they want 30 percent and they don't care that you only have 7 percent to play with." Apple's strength in numbers will only go so far, so whether they stick with what they've got or go further down the rabbit hole of gaming, again, time will tell.

u serious dude this is internet THIS IS NOT UR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WHERE YOU POST PERIODS AND STUFF its for posting quickly and thats what i did u have no argument so u just come with the classic old stall sh-t oh did u pass second grade yes and of course i did. AND ALSO FREAKING PASSED DAMN FLORIDA WRITING TEST WITH A LEVEL 6 IN 10TH GRADE AND THEY CHECK FOR SPELLING GRAMMAR AND EVERYTHING THAT SHOULD EXPLAIN TO THE LOW BRAINED PEOPLE THAT THE REASON I DIDN'T USE PERIOD AND COMMAS ARE BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO POST QUICKLY.

just as powerful as a Wii as 6 times more expensive you forgot to mention
