A very sad day in the tech world today as Apple confirmed the news that its visionary co-founder Steve Jobs has passed away at age 56.

Just yesterday, everyone was ecstatic with the company's "Let's talk iPhone" event, as they've unveiled their latest hardware, the iPhone 4S. Sadly, that excitement turned to grief today.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," the company’s board of directors said in a statement.

"Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

“His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts,” the statement reads.

Jobs has been battling cancer in the recent years of his life. He stepped down as Apple's chief executive last August. For all of us here at the QJ headquarters, we say farewell and thank you... Steve Jobs.

now ive had plenty to say in the past, maybe i didnt like his products, but damn this is truly sad news, respect to him for staying at his job so long and so close to the end, I feel bad for all the jokes about him quitting and stuff, heartfelt feeling go out to all his family and friends, and any trolls take a break for once don't turn every death into an excuse to show how small minded and pathetic you are

I agree. While I'm not a fan of Apple tech, I know that without it, we may not have what we have today. They were good competition for everyone else and they made some dam good looking s**t!

RIP Steve.

Let's see if this means they'll stop with the ridiculous over-versions of one product.

iPhone 1
iPhone 2G
iPhone 3
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S

Next iPhone 4GS? No, iPhone 5? Darn!

Same goes for iPad.

But yep, it's sad he passed away, nonetheless.

he was a true innovator, somebody who revolutionized how we communicate and interact with each other. it's a rare opportunity to have someone like him grace our lifetime with this kind of presence. he's done much more than any of us could have. rest well, mr. jobs.

lol, I'm not an "Apple cocksucker".

The only product of Apple's that I own is an ipod touch that I won from the local gaming arcade. I wouldn't spend hundreds on an ipod.

But, that aside, I know how much of an impact Steve Jobs has made in the computing industry, and if you did your research instead of being such an ignorant faggot, you'd know too.

I'm pretty sure he was partly responsible for OS' which ended being in almost every household.
Revolutionized? I think so.

Also just because Apple has overpriced items, you shouldn't write carppy comments on a farewell page about a dead person, even if that person had been evil(not saying Jobs, just in general).

I always criticise the Hell out of Apple but without them we'd still be using crappy Symbian type phone OS, huge windows based tablets & no real structure to downloading digital media, and yeah maybe things would have got like this eventually, but this guy almost single handedly improved the gadget world for the better.

symbian wasnt bad, id take a nokia N95 8gb over an apple iShit anyday...their APIs used too much juice but thats just poor memory usage that is

while i hate apple with a passion (as i do with anything thats considered 'in fashion'), mr jobs did do a remarkable job turning the company around like he did.

farewell

Symbian isn't exactly bad, it's just over 10 years it's hardly changed or improved in any way, and actually OS9 with that annoying signing you have to do makes it worse and so restrictive that developers stopped bothering creating for it.

lets not forget he was also a founding member of pixar animation you ***wholes without him we never would have seen toy story 1 or 2 or any other beloved pixar classics.and another thing he was a founder of apple sooo ya he was awesome without him we would see no ipod touch (or any ipods ) and the iphone which made touch screen phones cool lets face it before the iphone nobody had a touchsreen phone they didnt invent the tech or anything they just made it awesome.oh and android just isnt the same i think its just what poor people buy cause they cant afford real phones

I'm not a fanboy of anything but I'll go so far as to say that Android has the best market share over iOS for various reasons.

Poor people? Not at all. We just know better than to waste cash where we needn't.

Want reasons? Android is far elss restrictive, you can do virtually anything you want with it. With iOS you need to jailbreak it to do anything at all, and even after that the most you can really do is change how it looks; something native Android supports happily.

You can do far more on Android than you can on iOS.

That's because there's millions of Droid devices and only 1 iPhone. Android is cooler, but iPhone is easier to use for those oldies.

i dont own any apple devices but still Jobs did a good job innovating technology as we see today
e.g. (i)First GUI on PC by Apple (he was sacked during this period but he founded it anyways)
(ii)IEEE1394 aka Firewire which still widely used in SLR cameras
(iii)a semi-reliable 1st touchscreen phone that can be used using fingers instead of a 'pen'
and whatever 'first' things that he inspired
