There really are other app markets out there, but their selections as well as their revenues are dwarfed by that of Apple. According to a new report by HIS iSuppli, Apple will command 76% of all mobile app revenues in 2011, with total mobile sales of $3.8 billion, a jump of 77.7% over last year. Those figures are for apps sold from Apple’s App Store for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. iSuppli predicts that revenue from apps will rise to $2.91 billion this year, a jump of 63.4% from 2010’s $1.78 billion. Those other app stores fighting over the 24% remaining are Google’s Android Marketplace, Nokia’s Ovi Store, and Research In Motion’s BlackBerry App World. The report from iSuppli projects even more growth in he next few years. “Given that Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPod and iPad are the market leaders in their field, the company’s App Store is expected to take in 76 percent of revenue this year and retain 60 percent market share by 2014, despite efforts by the other stores to match Apple’s ability to monetize its users. Apple also will lead the way with revenue gained from in-app purchases—or additional purchases made within a paid application, such as bonus game levels—which will serve as a key growth driver for revenue up to 2014.”

Google came in a distant second, but is still expected to rake in $425 million in 2011, for a jump of 295.4%. Bringing up the rear will be RIM’s BlackBerry App World with $279 million and Nokia’s Ovi Store with $279 million. Will Apple hold onto its share of the market in 2011? Possibly, but the current explosion of Android phones is likely to greatly improve Google’s percentage for the rest of the year. OTOH, the sales of the iPad 2 could lead to an even higher percentage for Apple.
