iPhone Tips and Tricks: How to SSH into your iPhone

There are some advantages of this. You can install games which are not available on the App store, repair damaged files and also use your iPhone as a portable hard drive. All this may sound really complicated to obtain but the process of doing so is quite easy. Today iPhoneuserguide.com brings you a quick and easy guide to achieve SSH. Remember that your iPhone has to be jailbroken and both your iPhone and computer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi connection. Follow the steps mentioned below: 1)      You need to first download Cyberduck on your computer (Do a quick google search and you will find it for either your Mac or Windows). 2)      On your iPhone open Cydia. Then do a search for ‘OpenSSH’. Install the tweak and come back to your computer. 3)      Open up the Cyberduck application on your computer and then click on the ‘Open Connection’ button. 4)      Next, you need to type in your iPhone’s IP address in the server field. You can find this by going into the iPhone’s settings app, then Wi-Fi and then clicking on the blue arrow which is present next to your wireless network. This will show your IP address. 5)      Next, open the drop down menu which is present just above the place where you typed in your IP address. Click on the SFTP option. 6)      You will need to enter several parameters. In the Username field enter ‘root’. Enter ‘alpine’ in the Password field. Click connect and that’s it. You will now be able to view the file system under the iOS system on your iPhone. It is important to note that the first SSH may take some time to happen. Some users may get an ‘Unknown Host’ error which must be ignored by simply clicking on the Allow button. This process is really simple however, be really careful about which files you delete or edit. If not done properly you can easily brick your iPhone. I don’t think many of us have used SSH but it is really useful if you know what to do.
