Amazon director defends current Appstore pricing model |

For those of you out there with a cute little smart phone that isn't an iPhone, might have noticed there is a limited source for applications and that one of the only outlets is Amazon's own App store, of course without using the term App Store, probably copyrighted by the lovely people at Apple.
Aaron Rubenson looked over the current climate and financially decided where the focus should be when talking to Venture Beat.
"The reason we made that decision was that it gives us the broadest amount of flexibility in terms of marketing and merchandising and proactive promotional activities we were talking about, which we think is a real value for the customers." A focus on marketing the current applications to a wider audience may be difficult when your pricing plan fluctuates heavily.
Rubenson's confidence slid off even further when he announced the plans for the current system and a lack of change any time in the near future, "So here is where my answers have to be very boring unfortunately. We haven’t announced anything and I can’t speculate before we have, unfortunately."
Compared to the iOS and Nokia markets, the Amazon App Store was launched earlier this year in March and has over ten thousand applications. It's sensible in forseeing a greater market economically but if they are trying to play catch up with Apple, their shift should be pointed towards making the most enjoyable and affordable experience to those who don't wish to give Apple any more money. Apple has some major backers when it comes to competing with current gaming consoles, Android could possibly take note.
Knowing a few friends with smart phones, I've often heard them go after a product because they either a) hear good things about it or b) that they really need it, same goes for games. Whilst Amazon should be focusing on creating a cheaper and more efficient system for delivery, as well as a possible international expansion, the current situation could lead to a cycle of overzealous market and unseen profit for a few quarters. Time will tell, of course, for the company.
