Zynga and EA take over two big casual devs |

Anyone on Facebook? Totes add me. But in all seriousness, the casual gaming scene is really hitting up. Showing how profitable it can be with a bit of psychological creativity and a lot of people who like cute farm animals, Zynga was able to be a little start up and blossom into an incredibly huge money making machine.
Zynga looks like it's trying to strike out big in the next few years with their recent acquistion of Astro Ape despite losing one of their heads to EA.
Speaking of EA, Electronic Arts recently acquired PopCap games and it looks like they're still going down that casual path with getting the cute little iOS gaming company, Bight Games. Whilst no sum has been said, I doubt it was for the three quarter of a billion they fished out for PopCap. The little Canadian developers famous for making Trade Nations and a series of top 50 releases for the Apple Store.
Zynga is really giving EA a run for it's money, but I think EA is still pretty tech and future savvyy with these recent moves. EA, an old giant who is looking back on the industry as what was once a great evil but in the past few years has somehow strike a few IP's, be profitable and quite helpful to the industry.
I don't even know what happened. I remember being a kid and everyone saying how big and evil those two letters were, now it's Blizzard Activision, which whilst personally they have provided amazing games in the past, both have been guilty of running franchises into the ground.
