PopCap has officially removed the older version of Bejeweled 2 + Blitz, replacing it with a revamped version that features elements from Bejeweled 3. They've also gone and dropped a free version of the game, which consists solely of the one-minute “Score Attack” mode originally found in Bejeweled Blitz.

The new game, which goes by the same title as the retired version, contains the Zen and Diamond Mine modes found in Bejeweled 3, plus Classic play. And since PopCap is known for keeping their products updated, it’s only fair to assume that new features will be added over time.

Bejeweled 2 + Blitz is currently available on the iTunes Store for 99 cents – if you’re into puzzle games and time-wasters, it’s definitely worth a look. People love to talk about Angry Birds as the start of the mobile gaming revolution, but Bejeweled is actually second on the list of best-selling mobile games of all time, lead only by Tetris (according to PopCap, of course).
