How the price is right: App Store games at three dollars and below dominate the Top 100 |
Ó
Out of the nine price categories, from US$ 0.99 to US$ 9.99, it comes to no surprise at all that the biggest slice of the Top 100 belongs to the ninety-nine cent pile, which numbers at 36. The US$ 4.99 bracket gains some strength since many high-quality iPod Touch and iPhone games fall into that category, such as Pipe Mania, Dirt Moto Racing, and 3D Rollercoaster Rush.
Apart from that, the lower prices score more sales. In fact, the average price of all the games in the Top 100 is just at US$ 3.20. Out of the Top 20, a dominating 15 are priced at US$ 0.99.
Pocket Gamer didn't list the games that made it to the Top 100, but they did indicate that Gameloft holds #1, which is Hero of Sparta, and #6, which is Real Soccer 2009. Bigger titles, such as Sims 3 (#21), Doom Resurrection (#23), and Rolando 2 (#37), may have done better if not for their heavy US$ 9.99 price tag.
