Kojima Goes In-Depth on Metal Gear Solid Touch - Image 1

Last week, it was announced that Konami will be releasing Metal Gear Solid for the iPhone. Now you may be thinking, what's up with that? From the power of the PlayStation 3 to the limited scope of the iPhone?

MGS creator Hideo Kojima explains that Metal Gear Solid Touch was made to create a simple game to introduce the series to those unfamiliar with it. MGS for the noob?

The concept was more to create a "simple MGS."

The development team's first impression was that MGS has to be all about stealth, but you can't play a quick game on the train if it's about that. It's a little much to ask of someone trying our games for the first time. That's why we made it a simple touch-screen shooting game.

[...] This game really is nothing more than an entrance for us. I'd like people unfamiliar with MGS to play it, and maybe develop an interest in MGS4 in the process -- and if they foster a general interest in games from there, it'd make me all the happier.

Metal Gear Solid Touch will be based on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, one of three franchises from Konami that will make it to the iPhone. Looks like the iPhone's really getting some attention as a gaming platform. And what does Kojima have to say about that?

This device has its roots as a music player, added phone functionality, and now it can play games. It's starting to have the features that the PSP, Nintendo DS, and cell phones all have.

I think eventually, every kind of mobile device will be able to do all the same kinds of things -- and that includes games, of course.

When you think of it that way, compared to cell-phone gamers just looking for a way to waste time, iPhone users are people interested in musical and visual entertainment from the start, so it seems natural to think they'll want to try games.

Sorry but the Ipod/Iphone is crap as a gaming device. You cant substitute buttons for a touch screen. I have an Ipod Touch and very few games are good.

And it's not that it's a bad gaming device. It's the fact that they haven't fully utilized it's potential. Maybe it'll take a good game to convince others to make more good games for the iPod Touch/iPhone platform.

» yeah

indeed the iphone has many crappy games, but you already know that whatever Kojima makes is top notch...so MGST will be one of those few good IPhone games.

» this is just an advert game

to be fair the iphone games arnt that good. there all qyick pick up and play games that do get boring. this game is nothing more than one of those it will be a see the enemy and touch where he is to kill him. i bet it advertises mgs 4 all the way through Hideo Kojima will have had nothing to do with it its a marketing ploy. lets face it the iphone games can never be as good as handheld console games because it has no buttons u played that fps for it its rubish and awkward to work the games on iphone are good but you cant have hardcore games on them. poker and other simple games work really well and i love them but thats as far as iphone games should go
