The iPhone Dev-Team has made public their preliminary assessments of the 2.2.1 iPhone and iPod Touch firmware update that was recently spotted on iTunes.

The big news is that if you use yellowsn0w on your iPhone 3G, don't update as it will remove your ability to inject yellowsn0w. You can still get to 2.2.1 by using custom firmware that doesn't update the baseband. PwnageTool lets you do that, but it hasn't been updated for 2.2.1 yet.

On the other hand, the update didn't affect the ability to do a tethered jailbreak on first-generation iPhones and iPod Touches. The Dev-Team is still looking for a way to do untethered jailbreaks, though, so watch out for updates on that along with updates for PwnageTool and QuickPwn.
