Twitter Push Notifications Now Available On The iPhone

One of the highly-anticipated updates for Twitter has been recently launched and that is push notification for @mentions and direct messages. Before, Twitter mobile phone users had to go through third party applications like Boxcar and Notifo if they wanted to be updated on whether they have been mentioned in any of their friends’ tweets or messages. With the launching of the push notifications from the official Twitter application, updates are now more seamless. Here’s how it works: When someone you follow mentions your Twitter handle in his tweet, you will receive a text message on your Iphone. You then have the option to reply to this tweet thus continuing your conversation. Since the push notification is coming from the official Twitter application, you need only to re-configure your personal settings to activate or deactivate it. You can choose to turn notifications on and off for direct messages and/or @mentions. Furthermore, you can also set Twitter to notify you only when you’re mentioned by your friends only or for every mention of your username from any source. Additional notification settings can be altered straight from your Iphone. For instance, your Iphone can notify you by sound, badging or alerts for your Twitter application. You simply have to your Twitter settings on your Iphone to change or modify your notification preferences. Many Twitter users have been waiting for this enhancement. Time will tell if there are more adjustments to be made.
