Timeout City Guides for Sydney and Melbourne

The Time Out Sydney App basically works as a What’s On Guide broken up into the same sections that the print counterpart is broken up into. You can also Share events with friends or Invite them to it – which we thought was pretty nifty. You can make a favourites list – and check out Bar/Restaurants nearby. Users are also invited to ‘Rate’ the individual events through a nice colorful slider screen. The navigation is kinda fun, it has a standard iPhone style browsing layout, as well as a nice sidescrolling “Inspire Me” section which works like a gallery. The “Shake” to get a random event is a cute addition – although we wonder how often it will be used. It also has a dynamic Top 10 list for Restaurants, Gigs and Bars etc. We wonder if this is based on user ratings or based on the Top 10 lists from the Timeout Sydney website. Overall we think it’s a pretty well thought out app. It has everything you would want from a What’s On type guide and unique Time Out style is well translated to the iPhone screen. We wished the graphics took advantage of the iPhone 4’s retina screen – but again, it’s a free app – can’t have everything. If you live in Sydney or are visiting – you should download this app. You can get the Time Out Sydney App from the App Store.
