Microsoft sneaks in two new mobile Xbox Applications

Ever dreamed of remote controlling your Xbox? Dream no more!

This is just one of the cooler features that MS have included in the new Xbox Companion application that was released recently for Windows Phone.

With Xbox Companion you can do all the same things as My Xbox Live (also from MS and available on the App Store for iOS), but, in true MS style, just that little bit more is available for the Windows phone platform.

Both Apps can:

Connect to your Xbox Live account;
Allow messaging with people on your contact list;
Customize your Xbox Live avatar;
Compare Achievements; and
Manage your friends list (i.e. delete, add, etc.).

The Extra features of the Xbox Companion for Windows phone extends the apps functionality beyond a simple messaging extension for your Xbox Live account.

The Windows Phone Xbox Companion lets you:

Manage the content on your Xbox;
Navigate the Xbox Live catalog (to download new movies, TV Show, games, etc.); and
Start and stop playback of video and audio.

The integration of remote control functionality is fairly cool, given that you can do it over your 3G network fairly simply (and fast, so Joystiq reports).

You could even use it to freak out your parents or significant other...Haunted console anyone?

Both Apps are available right now, free to download from the respective phone OS application stores.
