Verizon iPhone will be a World Phone

The Verizon iPhone will go on sale to the public February 10, and many potential buyers are now weighing their options. According to numerous reports, one of the major drawbacks to the Verizon network is that CDMA does not work in most of Europe and Asia, as CDMA phones have no networks to roam on and lack SIM cards. Rival AT&T released this statement last week: “For iPhone users who want the fastest speeds, the ability to talk and use apps at the same time, and unsurpassed global coverage, the only choice is AT&T.” Now Verizon has released a statement of its own, rebutting the claim by AT&T: “Customers can use iPhone for voice and text in over 40 countries with data service in over 20 countries. For service availability and rate information, [see] International Roaming Rates and Coverage. When traveling outside of these 40 destinations, the Global Travel program is the perfect short-term solution for the occasional or infrequent global traveler who needs to stay in touch when traveling internationally.” Will this info sway some reluctant world travelers to take the plunge with Verizon?

I’d advise checking the “International Roaming Rates and Coverage” and comparing them to what AT&T is offering for the countries you’re most likely to be visiting. While Verizon’s international service may not be cheap, at least it’s available.
