iPhone Robber Foiled by MobileMe

A purse containing $200 and an iPhone was pilfered from a car while the owner was loading some items into the vehicle. The robber got away undetected, but slipped up by keeping the iPhone (and the cash) after dumping the purse. What he didn’t know was that the iPhone’s owner subscribed to Apple’s “Mobile Me” service, which track stolen phones. The GPS technology let Marin County sheriff’s deputies straight to the perp, who was booked for possession of stolen property, grand theft, theft with a prior conviction and violation of probation. He is being held on $10,000 bail. Maybe while he’s in the slammer, he can read “Robbery for Dummies.”
