iPhone 5 with 4-inch Display Coming in Q3?

A report released on Tuesday by the China Times via BGR confirms some previous rumors about what we can expect from the iPhone 5. The Chinese financial paper claims that the iPhone 5 will be very similar in design to the iPhone 4, but with a few differences. Most notable is a 4-inch display that will possibly stretch to the edges of the phone, up from the 3 ½-inch screen on the iPhone 4. This is an important upgrade, since there are already several Android smartphones with 4-inch screens on the market and more are expected. Another change is that Apple plans to return to the metal back case found on previous iPhone models rather than continue with the glass case of the iPhone 4. There have been numerous complaints from users that the glass case is overly fragile and breaks easily. China Times also says there will be an NFC chip in the iPhone 5, but does not say how soon Apple will have its NFC system up and working. Not surprising at all is the inclusion of Apple’s A5 dual-core processor, since that same chip is currently in use on the iPad 2 and is largely responsible for its increase in speed and power over the original model.

Probably the most interesting part of the report is the claim that Apple will push the launch of the iPhone 5, which has been expected for June, to later in the summer. The reason cited was the desire to give Verizon more time to sell its iPhone 4, which came out in February. If the iPhone 5 is in the trial production stage as claimed, we could be seeing “leaked” models in the near future.
