iOS 4.3 Coming Tomorrow?

At last week’s media event for the iPad 2, Apple promised that the long-awaited iOS 4.3 upgrade would be released on Friday, March 11, the same day as the new tablet. Now reports are filtering out that Apple will release iOS 4.3 to the public a bit earlier than expected. On Tuesday morning, BGR posted that the upgrade would come out later that day, at 1 p.m. EST, 10 a.m. PST. That time passed and nothing happened, so now the site is claiming that iOS 4.3 will be out on Wednesday. The speculation has been abetted by this chat conversation with an Apple rep who stated that iOS 4.3 will definitely make its debut tomorrow. This would be a crafty move on Apple’s part, since it could spread the media attention over several days instead of having iOS 4.3 get lost in the frenzy over the iPad 2 set to go on sale at 5 p.m. Friday afternoon. There are a lot of things to look forward to in iOS 4.3, the most noteworthy being the Personal Hotspot feature that allows iPhone owners to use their handset as a Wi-Fi hotspot for three other devices—provided they pay either AT&T or Verizon a monthly service fee.

Other goodies included are the Nitro JavaScript engine, which greatly increases Safari Web browsing speeds, plus iTunes Home Sharing, and AirPlay enhancements. As awesome as iOS 4.3 sounds, it’s not going to be the standard for very long. Already there’s talk that Apple is planning another media event for early next month, where they will introduce iOS 5, the system expected to power the iPhone 5 coming in June.
