Will Best Buy Carry Verizon iPhone on February 10?

If those rumors are true that Best Buy has been training its employees to push its Android smartphones to shoppers who inquire about the Verizon iPhone, there must be some confused and frustrated folks working there. Several images leaked a few days ago that were allegedly from an internal Best Buy training document that gave the chain’s workers detailed instructions on how to convince customers who wander in wanting a Verizon iPhone that they really need another model—one Best Buy sells. The main selling point is speed, or lack of it. While Android phones will be able to utilize Verizon’s 4G service this year, the 4G iPhone isn’t due until 2012. Will shoppers who’ve been hankering for an iPhone buy this sales pitch, or just walk out and head down to the nearest Verizon Wireless location or Apple Retail Store? That question probably also occurred to Best Buy execs, since an image leaked this week suggests that the stores will be carrying the Verizon iPhone 4 on February 10. Doesn’t this seem like really short notice?

Maybe, but stranger things have happened. Over the last few years, Best Buy has greatly diminished its stock of items like CDs and DVDs to concentrate on mobile devices. The AT&T iPhone has been a major moneymaker for the chain, so I don’t see them being without the Verizon model for long, if at all.
