White iPhone 4 Coming by End of April?

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, the white handset will go on sale within the next two weeks, before the end of May. Bloomberg cites three sources close to the project, one of whom stated that Apple had resolved the production issues that caused the long delay, including the problems with white paint. The phone would be available in models for both AT&T and Verizon. But why would Apple bother releasing a new model iPhone 4 so far into the model cycle? Maybe to keep up interest in the iPhone 4 until the next model is released, which rumors place as early as September or as late as next year. If it’s true that there won’t be an iPhone 5 until early 2012, putting out a white iPhone 4 now makes more sense. Apple has been giving mixed signals about whether the white iPhone 4 would actually happen or not. A few weeks ago, Apple Senior Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller announced on Twitter that the white iPhone was coming soon, but Apple has quietly removed all references to the model from its website.

With the white version being the most sought-after model of the iPad 2, the white iPhone 4 would make a nice mate for it for those who like to keep everything coordinated. And a semi-new model of the iPhone 4 would be good for a lot of media coverage at a time when Apple’s iconic handset is under attack by a barrage of cool new Android smartphones. Apple rarely makes a bad business move, and it’s doubtful they’ll be making one by releasing the white iPhone, no matter how belatedly. It will sell millions and make money, so that’s all that really counts.
