As we found out Thursday, a whole lot of people want a Verizon iPhone, like millions. But how many subscribers to competing carriers are willing to jump ship, and how many users of other smartphones want their iPhones, too? According to a study by technology and online sample firm uSamp, that sampled 700 smartphone owners, there are a lot of unhappy customers out there. Like the 26% of AT&T subscribers who currently use other smartphones but who’d like to switch to Verizon. Out of that number, 8% are very likely to switch and 18% somewhat likely. But the news isn’t all bad for AT&T, since of the 74% who plan to stay, 47% are loyal to the carrier and say it’s “very unlikely” they’ll leave. AT&T users aren’t the only ones with the itch to switch, as a whopping 54% of Verizon’s Android and BlackBerry owners are hankering for an iPhone, with 25% saying they’re very likely and the other 29% somewhat likely.

The most dissatisfied group on all seems to be Verizon BlackBerry crowd, of which two thirds would like to switch to the iPhone. So would 44% of the carrier’s Android users. This sounds especially ominous for Android, since 2011 is supposed to the year that Android handsets dominate the market. OTOH, it’s no secret that BlackBerry has been losing traction for the last few years. Will all those surveyed actually switch? Not any time soon, since so many are locked into two-year contracts and don’t want to cough up those early termination fees.
