New iPhone Ads Proclaim `If you don't have an iPhone, you don't have an iPhone`

All Apple ads have two things in common—they’re relentlessly clever and they illustrate exactly what you can do with whatever device is being advertised. Three new spots for the iPhone airing now have those assets and more. Why should Apple be making a major ad blitz for the iPhone 4 this close to the release of the iPhone 5? Because the competition, especially Google and its Android smartphones, are trying to snatch away a chunk of the iPhone market and Apple’s taking this opportunity to remind potential buyers of all the things their smartphone can do, but others can’t. Each of the three 30-second ads highlights an area Apple is famous for: App Store, iPod + iTunes and iBooks. The first for the App Store is probably the most effective, since Apple’s huge selection of apps for all of their mobile devices are a major selling point that Google can’t really compete against. I’ve seen the first one for the App Store already a few times on primetime network TV, so I suspect that will be the one that will air most frequently.

The one for iPod and iTunes reminds you that you don’t really need an iPod at all if you have an iPhone, provided you don’t have much music. If you don’t and are looking for new stuff, it shows how easily you can find fresh tunes and download them directly to the iPhone. The ad for iBooks again stresses the ease of shopping for authors or titles and reading them on the iPhone. All ads end with the words “Yup, if you don't have an iPhone, well, you don't have an iPhone.” For smartphone shoppers tempted by the newer, cheaper Android model, that just about says it all.
