There are may be some of you who haven’t owned an Apple device ever. iOS may be a new concept and you may require some understanding before you can completely utilize the potential of the iPhone 4. To start off, let’s first talk about the operating system found in iPhones. iOS is the mobile OS which has been developed by Apple to be used in mobile devices such as the iPhone and tablets such as the iPad. It is a touch sensitive OS which uses electrical charges from your fingers to locate the position of your finger. Instead of using hardware buttons, physical keyboards or trackballs, you use the device completely by the touch of your fingers.

iTunes is Apple’s media and device management tool which will allow you to connect your iPhone to your computer and also help you transfer music, movies and applications into your iPhone. Your iPhone can also update to new versions of the iOS released by Apple through iTunes. Unlike Android phones available on the Verizon network, over-the-air updates are not supported. iTunes is the complete home manager for your iPhone. Once you get your iPhone delivered to you, the first thing to do is to activate your phone to be able to make calls and use data. Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes beforehand. You can follow the instructions on iTunes to start making calls on your iPhone. Apart from activating your iPhone, iTunes can help you synchronise other stuff like music, accounts and bookmarks.

It is a very good habit to connect your iPhone to iTunes every day since iTunes can sync contacts, media and more importantly personal data with itself. In the event you lose your iPhone or need to factory reset for some reason, iTunes can help restore all the data in your iPhone so that you don’t lose anything and get everything back. Things like game progress and bookmarks will also get backed up and restored. I am sure before you start doing anything on your iPhone you are going to admire the iPhones design. So here is a break before you can resume your conquest of mastering the iPhone. Stay tuned for Part 2 of the complete iPhone guide for Verizon users.
