Apple Confirms White iPhone for Spring

As we reported earlier today, a post on Bloomberg Business claimed that the white iPhone 4 would be in stores by the end of April. This afternoon, Apple made it official by telling the Wall Street Journal that the model would be released in the spring. The company did not give an exact date or whether the handset would be available on both AT&T and Verizon, but this is the first statement from the company on the long-delayed white iPhone 4 since October. When the iPhone 4 was debuted back in June 2010, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that the new handset would be sold in both black and white models. However, when the time came to place pre-orders, buyers were offered only the black version. Apple delayed the release of the white iPhone, stating that it was “more challenging to manufacture than expected.” Since then, two more delays dragged the waiting time for impatient would-be buyers out to ten months. The culprit behind the delays was rumored to be faulty white paint that allowed light leaks that ruined photographs. Earlier this year, it was reported that the paint problem had been fixed with a new formula. Since then, there have been numerous rumors that the white iPhone 4 would finally make its debut in spring 2010, and Apple even sent out signage to retail stores with that information.

So now that the white iPhone will at last be making its debut in stores, will customers rush to buy it, or has Apple waited too long? I doubt that. It’s more likely that the recent release of the white iPad will spur more Apple fans to grab the white iPhone 4 in order to have a matched set.
