Best Buy to Offer Free iPhones? |
Listed in: Apple iPhone 3GS Tags: 3gs, apple, ios, news
It’s looking like Christmas 2010 is a great time to buy an iPhone—at least if you’re a new subscriber who doesn’t mind being stuck for two years with the worst rated service provider in the US. This week, Radio Shack is selling iPhones for as little as $25, but now another retail electronics chain is undercutting that.
According to sources, Best Buy will be offering the 8GB iPhone 3GS free for one day only, Friday, December 10. Obviously, buyers will have to sign the requisite two-year contract with Satan, er, AT&T, which was rated last in customer satisfaction by Consumer Reports. Best Buy is also extending the deal to existing AT&T subscribers if they’re adding extra lines or eligible for upgrades. The deal is available in-store only.
Why so many good deals right now? Probably because AT&T is about to lose exclusivity on the iPhone and needs to lock in as many subscribers as possible. And Best Buy wants you to shop their humongous, confusing mall store instead of someone else’s humongous, confusing mall store. And maybe Apple has a backlog of last year’s phones they’d like to unload while getting more users hooked on the iPhone experience.
So if you’re looking for a second tier iPhone with a worst-rated carrier at a great price, like free, find your nearest Best Buy here.
