Here's another addition to the App Store's stock of shooters for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This one's called Armoured Shift and it puts you in command of the Scythe MKIII spacecraft to defeat waves of asteroids, enemy ships, and deadly bosses.
Armoured Shift attempts to differentiate itself from the glut of iPhone shooters out there by ditching the dual n-screen joystick control scheme and opting instead for accelerometer-based controls. Said Abdul Hameed, co-creator of Armoured Shift:
From the very beginning, we wanted to do something markedly different from the deluge of shooters of the iPhone -- and so we chose to throw out the run-of-the-mill dual-analog control scheme in lieu of something more awesome. Instead of falling in with the rank and file, we decided to take advantage of the iPhoneÂ’s motion sensing capabilities, and not just Multi-Touch.
The action will take place across six open-world maps filled with multiple enemies, bosses, weapons and power ups. Armoured Shift will also feature Arcade and Progressive Story gameplay modes, a 10,000-player online leaderboard, and in-game achievements.
Developer Orbital Worlds expects Armoured Shift to show up on the App Store in mid-to-late September. It'll be available for US$ 0.99.
