Want To Print From Your iPad? Try Google Cloud Print.

Apple has AirPrint and Google has Cloud Print and they both allow you to print wirelessly from your iPad or your computer. Cloud Print differs from AirPrint in one major way. With AirPrint, in order to print a document you are required to be on the same network as the printer. That isn't the case with Cloud Print. You are able to print from Google's web-based apps like Gmail so you don't need to be on the same network. That certainly makes things easier. The catch is that for now Cloud Print will only work if your are on one of Google's branded services.

Before you start.

You will need Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 with the latest version of Google Chrome installed (there is a plug-in you can download from the website that you will need).
Connect that machine to your printer
After the printer is connected and Google Chrome is installed enable Google Cloud Print connector.

There are some slight variations depending on which application you are using but if you are in the Chrome OS, select the icon of the wrench and choose Print. The keyboard shortcuts work as well. Here is what you need to do to use Cloud Print.

You've connected your Windows machine to your printer and installed the plug-in.
Now just go to Gmail.com from your iPad (works with iPhone too) and select Print from the menue.

Cloud Print supports most attachments that Gmail supports so printing Word or PDF documents is no problem. Check it out and let us know what you think.
