iPad App Review: Use Flash On Your iPad With iSwifter.

Once you install iSwifter and open it you will be greeted with a home screen consisting of two panels. The first has a browser interface while the other is a gallery of flash games which are certified to work with this app. Let’s get into the browser first. You will be able to access any website on iSwifter and because all content must pass through the iSwifter servers they will load like they would on a computer. Facebook, Vevo, Hulu etc- all work fine. However, there were some problems which we encountered. Take for example Facebook. Because of the absence of cached browser data you need to log on into Facebook each time you open it. Not really a big concern considering you will be able to watch embarrassing wall videos of your friends on the go with iSwifter. The next problem was that because of some servers being located outside the US you had to face the ‘verify new location’ problem and enter login details each time you faced it. In fact, searching for Farmville resulted in us being taken to Chinese version of Farmville. These small trade-offs are however not much of an issue. A bigger problem was in the case of flash based games where these games were not touch-optimized. This means that you need to have the functionality of the arrow keys which unfortunately is not present on any touch based keyboard. Hence playing such games is a complete no and you will have to make do with only direct input games. Hopefully in the near future someone will develop a touch overlay of the arrow controls and we will be able to play such games.

iSwifter will load everything that is flash, including adds. One of the drawbacks of Skyfire is that it cannot convert all flash video resulting in some elements not being shown. iSwifter overcomes this issue. Overall, iSwifter is a very good app. However our advice is that you use iSwifter only when you want to use flash content as general browsing, pinch to zoom etc can be slightly laggy on the iSwifter browser. The app is currently free for your iPad on the App store however there is time limitation. To unlock the time limitation you will have shell out a very reasonable $0.99.
