The Top Ten Reasons Why the iPad Will Rule the Tablet Market in 2011

One-year head start It’s been a year since Apple announced that the iPad would be released in a few weeks and would be a magical device unlike anything seen before. It sounded too good to be true, and many pundits doubted that the iPad would be the game changer some predicted it to be. But ultimately, iPad lived up to the hype and more, capturing the fancy of the public and selling millions of units. It’s going to be very hard for the upstart tablets being released now to catch up with the iPad now.

Apps One of the biggest selling points for the iPad is the thousands of applications available at the iTunes App Store. Sure, there will be apps for tablets running the Android format, but Apple will always have the advantage.

Quality While the first generation of any device is likely to have some bugs that need to be straightened out in subsequent versions. The iPad 2 is sure to have some improvements, but the original has performed admirably, with few problems. Will its rivals have comparable quality?

Cool Let’s face it—Apple devices are cooler and more stylish than the clunky, old-fashioned gadgets from other brands. Apple devices are exciting, alluring—even sexy. It’s going to be hard to compete with the cachet of the iPad.

The iPad 2 improves on the original The first iPad did have some features lacking, like cameras and a mini-USB port. Those are expected to be included on the next gen iPad, along with a slimmer, lighter chassis and a faster processor.

Enterprise uses Industries from restaurants to hospitals have invested in the iPad, and developers have responded with apps to help them do business. The companies that have already made the iPad their standard in tablet technology aren’t likely to be convinced to switch to an untried device.

User friendly One of Apple’s major advantages has been that their products are simple and easy to use, even for the non-geeks among us. For the hardcore techies, there are plenty of ways to customize your iPad or iPhone. Will the competing tabs be so easy to master than even toddlers can use them?

Price The one tablet that could seriously challenge the iPad for market dominance is one that could do anything Apple’s tab can do, but costs half as much. This mythical gadget does not exist, and isn’t likely to in the near future. The high-end tablets have prices in the same ballpark as the iPad, while the budget-priced tabs lack some features. Not only does the iPad offer the most bang for your buck, more refurbished and used iPads will be available soon for lower prices.

Rivals’ lack of focus The tech brands bringing out tablets all seem to say their product is somehow “better” than the iPad, but most of them can’t seem to zero in on what “better” really means. Bigger? Smaller? With a keyboard? Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G? Until their rivals figure out exactly how Apple captures lightning in a bottle, they’ll never find a way to beat them at their own game.

Customer satisfaction Practically everyone who bought an iPad last year loved it, and would buy another one. How many iPad owners will buy themselves a new iPad 2 when they come out and pass the old one on to the kids? Or buy a new one and sell the old one on eBay? The iPad has a high level of customer satisfaction, and a happy customer is likely to come back for more. The tablets coming out this year have to attract buyers who haven’t previously purchased a tab, and convince them to buy an untried product rather than one that has a history. That’s a challenge they’re not likely to be up to.
